DLES CURRICULUM
The elementary faculty and staff at David Lipscomb seek to meet the needs of the whole child, providing positive experiences that will engage the mind, train the body, and enrich the spirit.
- The Bible is taught daily both as an academic subject and as a basis for life decisions. All students enjoy chapel activities.
- There is a strong language arts program which has a healthy balance of phonics and whole language components.
- Writing is introduced to young students as a way to enhance all literacy skills and is continued through every grade level.
- Spanish is taught weekly to all students, prekindergarten through fourth grade. The program is designed to provide an introduction to the language and culture of Spanish-speaking people.
- Mathematics is introduced in the early grades as a hands-on, experiential process. We seek to balance mastery of facts with thinking and reasoning skills.
- Science and social studies are taught at every level. We seek to make children's natural curiosity a motivating force as they observe and understand their world.
- Our K-4 students receive instruction in a comprehensive physical education program two hours weekly.
- Art and music specialists teach skills and develop a broad appreciation for the arts, each providing one hour of instruction per week.
- All students have a formal class visit to the library each week; students are allowed to go the library daily to check out additional books. The librarian also works with students as they research assigned topics.
- Curriculum enrichment is provided through field trips, special days, service projects, and visiting instructors. In addition, our PK-12 campus school enjoys a special relationship with Lipscomb University, providing elementary students and faculty access to resources that enhance the learning experience.
