DESCRIPTION OF THE SCHOOL
David Lipscomb Elementary School is a Church of Christ-affiliated educational day school that has served students for over a century. The elementary includes prekindergarten through fourth grade classes. An exciting academic curriculum and daily Bible study form the foundation of the Lipscomb educational experience.
MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of David Lipscomb Elementary School is to serve students so that they may master knowledge and skills appropriate to them and become Christ-like in attitude and behavior.
PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL
The elementary school serves a particularly unique and important role because it is at this level that children are introduced to the mission of the school. In their first experience with formal education, students establish attitudes about learning and faith that will influence for many years to come. We are dedicated to providing a positive, stimulating, and nurturing environment that points students to academic excellence, faith in God, and service to others.
ACCREDITATION
The Southern Association of College and Schools accredits David Lipscomb Elementary School. Lipscomb holds membership in the Southern Association of Independent Schools, Independent Schools of the Nashville Area, and the National Christian Schools Association.
FACULTY
David Lipscomb Elementary has a highly dedicated faculty. All classroom teachers are state-certified, and almost half have masters degrees. Our faculty members average twelve years' experience at DLES; many have additional experience at other schools. The student-teacher ratio for DLES is 15 to 1. The average class size for prekindergarten, kindergarten, and prefirst is 17 students. The average class size for grades 1-4 is 18.
STUDENTS
Students of average and above scholastic aptitudes are admitted to David Lipscomb Elementary School. Students are admitted without regard to race, religion, sex, color, national or ethnic origin. Students may be admitted to the prekindergarten program if their fourth birthday occurs by the end of September of the year admitted; kindergarten students should turn five by the end of September.
FACILITIES
The elementary school, located approximately a mile and a half south of the main campus, enjoys spacious classrooms, a gym with a full-sized basketball court, a library with more than 10,000 volumes, a cafeteria that serves hot lunches daily, an art room, a music room, a reading room, and a computer lab. All second, third and fourth grade classrooms are equipped with ceiling-mounted projectors, with the added capability of interactive school boards in third and fourth. In the summer of 2008, the entire facility became a wireless environment.
There are extensive outdoor learning areas recently updated to include a pavilion, an amphitheater, a math patio, a koi pond, and numerous gardens. The addition of these outdoor spaces will enhance the curriculum, integrating environmental learning with language, math, and social studies.
